Elevation (Elevación)
Sala Carlos Federico Sáez, MTOP
September 25 to October 25, 2009
A large field of action pans horizontally in an epic
scene working through several different planes,
highlighted by the sublime height of the eagle. A
scene conceived in terms of drawing, monoprint,
and muted chromatic tints, it began within the
boundaries of certain dimensions that little by little
proved insufficient, since the concept required a
monumental presence to contain its narration.
Passionate lines, thick and fast strokes or tapering
lines, clear and tidy, arrange the composition with a
mannerist touch. A sharp and remarkable image,
the characters act along the central line; a quasi-
abstract and indefinite mass on the upper and
lower planes.
Sporadic, bluish, violet or copper shades emerge in
the lower sections, like reflections of nearby,
profound and barely-glimpsed occurrences. The
perspective used to represent the eagle opts for
most paradigmatic plane: the profile shows off its
magnificent head and noble gesture, a rational
dominator of instinctual mass that stirs
primordially, casting hard expressionless glances
from multiple more or less emerging eyes, crude in
their inability to rise upwards.
